Box Office Report: Lipstick Under My Burkha scores well; Munna Michael does poor business on day 1
Here's how Lipstick Under My Burkha and Munna Michael performed on day 1 of its release.
This week witnessed two releases at the box office in Bollywood. While one is a mass entertainer Munna Michael starring Tiger Shroff and Nidhhi Aggerwal, the other one is the much-talked about movie Lipstick Under My Burkha starring Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Plabita Borthakur and Aahana Kumra.
On day 1, Sabbir Khan's Munna Michael has performed poorly at the box office. The movie earned INR 6.50-6.75 crore on first day of its release. These collections have come mainly from the single screens. Given the wide release it had, these numbers are too poor even though it has opened better than Tiger's last release A Flying Jatt. Unfortunately, Munna Michael has opened lesser than Jagga Jasoos and Kaabil too. Going by the trend, the movie is in trouble since it isn't performing well at the multiplexes.
On the other hand, Lipstick Under My Burkha performed exceptionally well despite having released in only 400 screens. The movie collected INR 90 lakhs on day one and is expected to earn INR 4 crore over the opening weekend. The production numbers suggest that the movie made INR 1.22 crore on its first day. With the film being made at a tight budget of INR 6 crore including P&A, this ones surely to do well at the box office!
The Hollywood film Dunkirk has done well with business of 3.50 crore nett apprx and is set for a good weeeknd. It is easily the best performing film in multiplexes and these collections have come from just the english version as the film has not been dubbed.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor's Jagga Jasoos made INR 1.25 crore on its eight day, taking the total to INR 45 crore. With the current trend, the movie will make just about over INR 50 crore by the end of this weekend. But it will struggle to cross INR 55 crore as far as the lifetime collection of the movie is concerned.
