2019 has clearly started on a good note for the box office, what with films like Gully Boy, URI: The Surgical Strike and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi setting the cash registers ringing and entering the Rs 100-crore club. And this Friday, we have Sujoy Ghosh’s thriller film Badla starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu hitting the theatres. Well, it will be safe to say that the day the makers of Badla dropped the trailer of the film online, the film has been trending on all social media channels for one, the lethal combination of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu and two, because of the gripping storyline.

Prior to Badla, Sujoy Ghosh has helmed hit film to the likes of Kahaani and Kahaani 2, and therefore, the expectations are at an all-time high. Badla is the story of Naina Sethi who is blamed for the murder of her lover and is caught in a conspiracy. In the film, while Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of Badal Gupta, who is a lawyer, Taapsee Pannu will essay the role of Naina Sethi. For all those who don’t know, Badla is the remake of the Spanish film The Invisible Guest and with Badla, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan will mark their first collaboration as producer and actor.

Coming to the box office collection prediction for Badla, Trade Analyst, Girish Johar informed Pinkvilla, “Badla has a very good cast of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu. The trailer has generated a lot of intrigue among the audiences and it is backed by Sujoy Ghosh and the biggest star Shah Rukh Khan is producing it. So the expectations, as well as the excitement among the public, is quite high for the film.” Coming to the box office prediction for Day 1, Girish has predicted that the film will mint Rs 3 crores on its opening day. “The promotions and the trailers look appealing. The target audience is very high in top-end cities as well as multiplexes. Once the film releases, it relies heavily on the word of mouth because of the film's genre. I peg the opening day box office collection to be at Rs 3.50-4 crores to start with. If the word of mouth is good, box office collection can increase in the later shows on Day 1. And if it is not appreciated then it can go down from that.”
