EXCLUSIVE: Ayub Khan REVEALS the reason for doing Ranju Ki Betiyaan & how it’s different from Rubina’s Shakti

Ayub Khan is one of the most talked about actors in the Bollywood and the television industry and has carved a niche for himself with his versatility and impressive line of work. Recently, the senior actor made the headlines after he was roped in for a key role in Dangal TV’s Ranju Ki Betiyaan. The family drama also features Reena Kapoor and Deepshikha Nagpal and Roopal Tyagi in lead. While the show has grabbed attention since the first episode itself, it has also opened to rave reviews from the audience.

Recently, in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Ayub, who plays the role of Guddu Mishra in the show, opened up about his character and stated, “I play Guddu Mishra’s character. He is someone who is respectful of his father. And even though he doesn’t agree with his father’s wishes he goes along with them. Hence, he gets married to Ranju (Reena Kapoor) whom his father chose for him. He then goes on to become a father of four daughters. But he isn’t too happy in the marriage and is also of the mindset that only boys can take the family ahead. Hence, without giving a second thought he decides to get married to Lalita (Deepshikha Nagpal). He has a very strong patriarchal mindset and is madly in love with Lalita.”

On being quizzed about what made him say yes for the role, Ayub stated that it was the impact of his character on the storyline. “This is my second show with Rashmi Sharma. The first one I did with them was a pivotal story. It was a project with a strong and relevant impact on society. And Raju Ki Betiyaan is again a very interesting storyline talking about a single parent raising four daughters. And the most important reason for saying yes is that my character has a strong impact on the storyline and is the reason behind the twists and turns,” he added.

Interestingly, Ayub will be seen sharing the screen space with his former co-stars Reena Kapoor (Shakti- Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki) and Deepshikha Nagpal (Karishma Ka Karishma) and the actor is quite excited about the same. “I am always happy to work with my friends. You are always comfortable to work with the ones you have a great equation with. You tend to understand each other. The only apprehension or worry in the current situation is working amidst the pandemic. Other than that, it is as exciting as getting a new job,” the senior actor was quoted saying.

Interestingly, there has been a lot of comparisons between Ranju Ki Betiyaan and Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, both of which featured Ayub in a pivotal role. While the actor opined that the storyline of both shows is different, they aimed to highlight the right of women in society. Ayub said, “My previous show Shakti — Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki was about transgenders and Ranju Ki Betiyaan is about a single mother trying to raise four daughters. Basically, it is about women empowerment and the rights of women in society and about breaking norms and traditions. It is about identifying the fact that women also have a position in society that needs to be respected, acknowledged and celebrated. Though they are completely different subjects, they aim to highlight the rights of women within the society.”

Interestingly, the team has shot for Ranju Ki Betiyaan amid the COVID 19 pandemic. So when Ayub was quizzed about shooting in the new normal, he replied, “After staying at home for a year and not interacting with people, I got accustomed to being by myself. And I had a sense that irrespective of the precautions, there is always a fear of contracting the virus. But I had to break that mindset and trust the fact that I will be going to a space where I will be meeting a lot of people and that one day all of us need to go out and make a living. So yes, there was a bit of apprehension but after seeing the way the people were adhering to the SOPs on set, it built a little confidence in me. But there will always be a little fear because we as actors cannot work with a mask on and you never know how the virus can reach you. But you always need to move on in life.”
