Naresh Agrawal, the former Samajwadi Party member (SP) recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. He was denied the Rajya Sabha ticket by the Samajwadi Party.
Agrawal, who was upset with the SP for favouring veteran actor turned politician Jaya Bachchan over him for the Rajya Sabha nominations, took a jibe at Bachchan calling her a 'nachnewali'.
When a leading news agency asked Jaya Bachchan what she has to say about his comments, she said, "I am a stubborn lady, I will not answer."
Meanwhile, Naresh Agrawal had said, “Aur filmon mein kaam karnewali se meri haisiyat kar di gayi. Ye filmon mein dance karte, apna role karte, unke naam par hamara ticket kata gaya, mein ne isko bahut uchit nahin samjha. Kisi ne bhi isko uchit nahin samjha. (My status has been equated with women who work in films. For somebody who used to dance in films, act in films, I was denied a (Rajya Sabha) ticket. I did not find it appropriate. Nobody found it appropriate).”
Following this, Sambit Patra, the official spokesperson of the ruling party tried to salvage the damage by making it clear that BJP respects all of them, actors, non-actors, everyone equally.
Even as the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj condemned his statement while welcoming him onboard, Twitterati demanded a stricter punishment.
On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan's has fallen ill on the sets of Thugs Of Hindostan in Rajasthan today. A team of doctors flew down to the sets in Jodhpur to attend Big B.
Today, Jaya Bachchan was asked about Big B's health. To which she said, "Amitji's health is fine. He has pain in his back and neck. The costume is pretty heavy and that's why he is in pain. Otherwise, he is fine."
