Pan Nalin’s “Angry Indian Goddesses” will open the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA) here on April 6, and Naseeruddin Shah and Kalki Koechlin-starrer “Waiting” will draw curtains on the 14th edition of the film festival.

A line-up of 27 films, including 16 features and 11 shorts films, has been planned for the five-day film gala, which is widely recognised for taking Indian cinema on the foreign shores. It will be held at ArcLight, Hollywood, here.

A section of intellectuals here are unhappy that Hansal Mehta's film, based on a gay relationship of a professor, has been named "Aligarh".

Members of the Millat Bedari Muhim Committee told IANS that the film was about a gay relationship of a professor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) although nothing has been conclusively proved in the case.

Jasim Mohammed, secretary of the organisation, said the film created an impression that gay relationship was common in Aligarh. Such an image would deter parents from sending their children to study in Aligarh, he said.

After "Masaan", actor Vicky Kaushal is on a roll with three projects -- "Zubaan", "Manmarziyan" and "Raman Raghav 2.0".

Actress Richa Chadha, who sports a 'desi' look in the upcoming film "Sarbjit", says Omung Kumar is the "most meticulous" director she has worked with.

"Sarbjit" is a biopic on Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of terrorism and spying in Pakistan and was sentenced to death. He was attacked by inmates at a prison in Lahore in April 2013 and died a few days later.

In the biopic on his life, Richa will be seen as the protagonist's wife Sukhpreet Kaur.

Filmmaker Prakash Jha, who had wanted to become a MP but failed, says he no longer desires to associate with any political party.

"I have no interest in becoming a part of any political ideology or party," Jha told the media here on Wednesday.
