EXCLUSIVE: Rajkummar Rao on being a game changer post Stree's 100 crore club feat - It’s a humble beginning

In an EXCLUSIVE chat with Pinkvilla, we spoke to Rajkummar Rao about his film Stree entering the 100-crore club, why the film clicked with the audience, being a game-changer and if he feels the industry's perception of him as an actor will now change.

Rajkummar Rao is the latest entrant in the prestigious 100-crore club with his latest outing, Amar Kaushik's directorial Stree smashing a century at the box office. Rajkummar 's take as Vicky, the 'Nagar ka Romeo' won hearts all around the nation. Along with Rajkummar, Stree also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurrana and Abhishek Banerjee. The horror comedy revolves around the ghost of 'STREE' who kidnaps eligible bachelors by her aura and leaves only their trail of clothes behind.

In an EXCLUSIVE chat with Pinkvilla, we asked Rajkummar about his reaction on entering the 100-crore club to which the actor gushed, "It’s definitely overwhelming. It means there are so many people who have watched our film. We made Stree with a lot of love and purity and when people can feel that same love for the film, it’s the best feeling. I am very happy that a good film with good intentions like Stree has made 100 plus. It’s a good sign for our cinema where our audiences are ready to welcome different content and it’s only because of them that we feel empowered to make what we believe in."

On what was it about Stree that worked so well with the audience, Rajkummar revealed, "The unique combination of horror and comedy and such different content has connected with the audience. I know so many people who have seen it twice and thrice. That shows the amount of love our film is getting."

Does Rajkummar feel that the industry's perception of him as an actor will change post Stree's tremendous success? "Well, a few things definitely change when a film becomes a big a success but what those things are, I am still trying to figure out because nothing has changed in me. I still love my work the same way when I just began."

We quizzed Rajkummar on his reaction to being touted as a gamechanger, given that the reason for his upward growth so far is his sheer talent and hard work. On this, the humble actor shared, "It’s overwhelming. I’ve always believed in listening to my heart without connecting too many dots and whenever I didn’t listen to my gut feeling it didn’t work for me and that’s what I want to continue doing. To keep pushing myself to do more exciting work. This success is everyone’s success, people who believe in their dreams and vision. It’s a humble beginning but I just want to enjoy the journey without thinking too much about the result."
