It is rightly said that with experience for any craft, one does get insights that no other has. And when we spoke to Sayantani Ghosh about Naagin 4, she definitely had a new perspective to give out for things not many might have thought of. Apart from Nia Sharma, Jasmin Bhasin, and others, the OG Naagin is returning with Ekta Kapoor's fourth season of Naagin and when I got talking to her about all things supernatural, her experience spoke for itself.

Ask her what went into saying a yes and the thought process, she says, "See, I was doing another show already and for me to say yes, I wanted to be very sure about it. And since I have been the Naagin once already, I wanted this to be worth the return and this had to be something exciting for me to say yes to it. When they approached me in October, I wasn't sure how would the dates work out with Sanjivani already in place, and then they approached me once again for Naagin 4 in November saying they really want me for the role I am doing, and a lot of things fell into place eventually. When I started, I knew that this is going to grab a lot of eyeballs and social media has been abuzz with the news. A lot of thinking went into saying a, yes, but for me, when I thought they really wanted me, I was like okay, given I have worked with Balaji and Naagin has been a huge franchise in terms of numbers as well as their connect. I have done Naagin, so from that point of view, I did have to think, but yes with the narration, the franchise, and everything else, I was sold at Ekta Kapoor telling me she really wants me to do this and that it is really going to be a milestone. I haven't shot for a lot of outdoors but now, shooting here definitely falls in one of the top ones so far, waking up early in the morning and then makeup and shoots, so it is physically challenging, but after 14-15 years, when I am returning as a Naagin, it has to be that. I think my association works both ways, given the buzz around the show with me returning and for me, I am sure it'll give me that top gear."

Ask her about maintaining two shoots together, she says, "My dates did work out for Sanjivani and my producer was gracious enough to release me on certain dates. And also, with the reports about Sanjivani going on, when I spoke to him, he released a part of my dates, so yes I will have to balance things out, and I love work, so that works out just fine."

About working with Nia, Jasmin, and the entire team, she added, "We haven't shot together yet, but I feel it is going to be interesting given they both are young talents. Nia, I have seen her work, and Jasmin has been doing well for herself as well. All of us are very different in terms of the on-screen personalities we have played, but what is right about the ensemble cast is that it has the right kind of blend with everyone bringing their uniqueness on board and completing the whole."

For someone who has been a part of the industry for such a long time, supernatural shows tend to be credited to Naagin, but the fact remains that they have always been there, but haven't received enough recognition. Do you think that supernatural shows being called the new herd mentality holds any truth?  She says, "when my Naagin was launched, we opened up to good numbers and topped the charts with bigger numbers considering the parameters back then were different. So now, when you say that the trend has come in now, is not true. The other shows aren't working as much while supernatural genre and mytho are, which is why the attention, but back in the day, any show would run up to one to one and a half year, but back then this genre wasn't highlighted. For me, I don't see it as herd mentality, but when you talk about something that isn't real and make-belief, is that mytho, for example, is deeply rooted and if you talk about the 80s kids, they have grown up seeing it while the current generation is building up the connect since they don't know about it just as much and the visual medium is great for it. Supernatural shows, for that matter, are the kind of things we have heard stories of, and so for the one of half an hour, why wouldn't you be want to be transported to a different world?"

Ask her if she has the pressure to keep up with the numbers and the franchise, she says, "I think this is where the phrase with more power comes more responsibility comes true. If here, the power is the shows having run well, here the responsibility is that we make it better. Even for Sanjivani, it gives you the impetuous to perform well. Now when I see it, for me, it is not just the franchise doing well, but for me, there is an added thing of me having been the Naagin. But for some reason, for me, it is not making me think, but just seems exciting. I don't want to be limited to a one show or two show wonder, and for someone who has been here for such a long time, you want to do something that is challenging and do so not to prove yourself to anyone, but for the sheer excitement of it."
