- Biography: Karan Johar is an Indian filmmaker, producer, costume designer and actor who is famous for his work in Hindi cinema. Karan was born on 25th May 1972 to Late Yash Johar and Hiroo Johar in Bombay, India. His father was the founder of Dharma Productions. Karan completed his schooling at Greenlawns High School, Mumbai and he completed his graduation from HR College of Commerce and Economics. Karan started his career as an actor with the Indradhanush serial in 1989. In his initial days, Karan worked as an assistant director on cousin Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Later, he made his directorial debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film became a major blockbuster at the box office and received positive reviews from critics. After that, Karan Johar directed the movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. This film also became Johar's second major blockbuster at the box office and received positive reviews from critics. Following the success, Johar directed films like Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, My Name is Khan, Student of the Year, Bombay Talkies, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and several others. Along with direction, Karan also produced movies, such as Lust Stories, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Dostana, I Hate Luv Storys, Agneepath, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2 States, Raazi, Simmba, etc. Karan has also acted in the movie Bombay Velvet and further made cameo appearances in several movies. Karan also has worked as a costume designer. Karan was the host of Koffee with Karan, What the Love, BiggBoss OTT, etc. He was awarded Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour, in 2020. Along with this, he has also won several awards for his films. He became a father of twins through surrogacy in February 2017. Karan named his son Yash and daughter Roohi.
