After playing Sanjay Dutt in Dutt biopic, Ranbir Kapoor will reportedly play his son in Karan Malhotra's next movie.

According to our sources, Sanjay Dutt has been approached by Karan Malhotra to play Ranbir Kapoor's father in the film, he is directing for YRF.

We had earlier reported exclusively that Karan has signed a three-film deal with YRF and his first project will have Ranbir in the lead role.

Director Karan Malhotra has directed some interesting films such as Agneepath (2012) and Brothers (2015). Besides, Ranbir's last film with YRF was Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009).

Meanwhile, as per an entertainment website, Vaani Kapoor has been finalized as the lead actor opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the movie. Vaani Kapoor has a three-film deal with Yash Raj Films with Shuddh Desi Romance and Befikre being two of them. Vaani has also signed Sidharth Anand’s next with Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff.

Ranbir Kapoor has returned to Mumbai after wrapping up a schedule for Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra. The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles.

Ranbir took sword-fighting, horse-fighting and dancing lessons for the film. The fantasy film is set to be a trilogy and the first part will be hitting the screens in 2019.

When a leading daily asked Ranbir about Brahmastra, the actor said, "Well, it’s not really a superhero film because the word ‘superhero’ comes with a preconceived notion about it. The film is, as Ayan puts it, ‘a magical romantic fairy tale set in contemporary times.’ It’s got a great cast too with Alia Bhatt and Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) in the film. Other superb actors are also being cast in it. It’s a film that has been written in a trilogy format so there will be three parts, which Ayan will make over a period of eight years. It’s also very exciting, and risky at the same time because it’s something that has never been tried before."
