Emraan Anwar Hashmi (pronounced [ɪmraːn ˈɦaːʃmi]; born 24 March 1979) is an Indian actor who appears predominantly in Hindi cinema. Hashmi debuted in 2003 with the crime thriller film Footpath and subsequently appeared in films include Murder (2004), Kalyug (2005), Gangster (2006) and gained acclaim starring in the action film Awarapan (2007). Hashmi has received several Filmfare Awards nominations. [1][2] Before venturing into acting, Hashmi worked as an assistant director for the horror film Raaz (2002). [3] During the same decade, he became a huge sensational and established leading actor with many successful romantic thrillers

Controversies

Emraan in July 2009 accused a housing society in Bandra of religious discrimination saying that it denied him the NOC to purchase a flat in the building because he is a Muslim. SRK brushed off this controversy as one-off and said such incidents should not be given importance. Salman called it a publicity stunt adding that such incidents take place because of the individual's personality and not his religion!
