EXCLUSIVE: Kajol - Ajay Devgn makes sure he is there for my birthday; Nysa never says no to me for anything
Kajol speaks exclusively to PINKVILLA about her birthday plans and celebrations this year.
An epitome of grace and unadulterated warmth, somewhat bratty but all heart. Quirky or standoffish you may call, 'my life my rules', she says. Words cannot do justice to the acting prowess that Kajol is. Starting her career at a tender age of 16, Kajol made everyone fall weak in the knees with her innocence and sass. She is not a public pleaser, no, not at all and that is perhaps which made her stand out and all the more appealing. From sweeping us all off with her childlike innocence in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (KKHH) to leaving us shocked and aww-ed with her stellar performance in Fanaa and My Name is Khan amongst others, she has the ability to induce life in any ordinary character.
As Kajol today celebrates her 43rd birthday, we spoke to her about her birthday plans, celebrations at home and much more.
Without much adieu, here's an excerpt from the interview:
Birthday Plans?
I don't have any birthday plans, honestly! I am one of those who like to chill with my family, enjoy some quality time, that's my ideal birthday. I give a lot of time to people I love and people who love me.
Birthday gift expectations?
I love birthday gifts, who doesn't? But no birthday gift expectations. I stopped that long back. I just expect gifts, that's it.
Best Birthday gift so far?
I don't know actually. I know it sounds very corny but I honestly love having my family over and spending time with them. I don't get to see them much during the year so it is nice to have them all on this one day. I hope they have a good time, I have a good time and we all get so tired that we can't walk out.
Best gift from children?
Lots of things actually. Once Nysa baked a cake for me and she made me sushi once. The one thing that I love about her is that on my birthdays she never says no to me for anything. She is like, "okay, it's your birthday, you are allowed everything." So it is a very special day for me when my daughter doesn't say no to me for anything at all.
Best gift from Ajay Devgn?
He is not the kind of a person who gets excited over a birthday or a birthday present. He and I, we both like to say that it is more of an everyday situation than a once in a year plan. So, he is more like he will be there. He makes sure that he is there for my birthday, which is the most important thing, considering his busy life and how many releases he has in hands right now. (laughs)
Has your birthday celebration changed over the year?
I am still very very excited about my birthday (laughs). I love my birthday. I think this is one day in the year which belongs to me and me alone. Yes, I know there are 100s of people born on August 5 but I am very happy with the fact that I get to call it my day. I take my birthday very seriously.
Has Ajay ever forgotten your birthday?
No. I remind him a week in advance, 5 days in advance, 4,3,2 days in advance. So, I keep reminding him till the day I wake up and then I call him and I wait, if I have to. Mostly, he is there with me, so he knows that it is her birthday so better wish her.
Something special Ajay did for you on your birthday?
I know one birthday where he organised everything for me. I was on an outdoor shoot and I came back and he kept everything ready from the food to the flowers to inviting everyone. It was really sweet and touching because he knows I like to have people over. I was very happy because I know he is not someone to do all this but he organised this for me. I was really touched.
Anything crazy a fan did for your birthday?
Honestly, I met this girl recently and she actually gave me cake fours days before my birthday and traveled all the way. She actually wrote on the cake, "Happy Birthday in advance" I was so touched by that she took the time out to travel and bring the cake with her. Lots of people love me and have done different things for me, can't pick one. However, for this birthday I can say that one fan has done something really sweet and special for me.
