EXCLUSIVE: Javed Akhtar gears up for a comeback as a writer, 15 years after the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don
After writing iconic scripts like Mashaal, Saagar, and Lakshya, Javed Akhtar is set to make comeback as a writer after 15 long years. Here's all that we know.
Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are easily the most iconic writer duo of Hindi cinema and their legacy is intact even five decades. Their stories have been embodied in the history of cinema, and films like Zanjeer, Haathi Mere Saathi, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Deewar, Don, Dostana, Shaan, Kranti and many more are remembered today for the brilliant display of screenplay and dialogues. The spilt of the two in 1980s was a heartbreaking moment for the film lovers, however, they continued to work in independent capacity.
Javed Akthar went ahead to write some more films like Mashaal, Saagar, Lakshya and Don (2006), before taking a backseat from the writer’s chair. Pinkvilla has exclusively learnt that the veteran writer is finally gearing up for a comeback as writer and his film will be bankrolled by son, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s banner, Excel Entertainment. “While Javed Saab continued his stint as a lyricist, he had taken a backseat from writing. But, finally, 15 years after Don, he has found his inclination towards a script that he wishes to translate to the spectacle for the audience. It has all the elements of a Javed Akthar story with a blend of drama and emotions,” revealed a source close to the development.
The source further added that the script is completely locked, however, they are yet to decide on the star-cast as also the shooting timelines. “The idea is to take the film on floors by end of this year with a top bracket star-cast. It’s among the most prestigious projects in the kitty of Excel Entertainment, and all the energies are on it to make it special,” the source added. Interestingly, it would mark Javed Akhtar’s 40th film as a writer and 15th film as an independent writer, after the separation with Salim Khan.
More details on this film is awaited. Meanwhile, the production house has multiple films lined up with PhoneBhoot shoot on the verge of completion, Fukrey 3 all set to go on the floors from the month of April, Yudhra with Siddhant Chaturvedi in the prep stage, the probable road trip film of Farhan Akhtar with Alia Bhatt, as also Zoya Akhtar’s next directorial for the big screen.
