Sidharth Malhotra gets candid about his views on nepotism

NEPOTISM; the word that has taken Bollywood in 2K17 by storm. It all started when Kangana Ranaut touted Karan Johar as the "Flagbearer of Nepotism." What followed after that was a divide in the industry between the star kids and ones not belonging to any Bollywood clans. While some opposed nepotism, there were many for it.

While promoting his upcoming movie, A Gentleman, we asked Sidharth Malhotra on whether nepotism ever played a barrier for the actor, who made his Bollywood debut along with two star kids - Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in Student of the Year.

Sidharth stated, "I won't say barrier. Firstly, there is so much chatter now that majority of youth India knows what nepotism means. This is the new word we have got - Nepotism, sabko pata hai. That being said, it is there in the industry. We can't deny it because there are so many actors, directors and more actors who have family available in the industry who work with them and are working for them but I would not say that I was...I didn't work in those movies barring say the first film. I wouldn't say it was a hindrance. The only difference I would honestly say was maybe awareness that they (Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt) come with because of their background and upbringing they've been so exposed to the Bollywood ways of making. Yeah, I didn't have that awareness. Honestly, I feel that I was extremely lost. At that time there is nobody to guide you. You learn from your own mistakes and you make your own decisions as opposed to learning from your family. So that is the only difference I would say. "
