Salman Khan's brother-in-law Aayush Sharma will soon make his big Bollywood debut with Loveratri, a film produced by Salman Khan Films. The movie also stars debutante Warina Hussain and is all set to release in theatres on October 5, 2018. Aayush is married to Salman's sister Arpita Khan Sharma and the couple is blessed with a baby boy Ahil. In Loveratri, the actor plays the role of a garba teacher who falls in love with Warina's character who is on a small visit to India.

In a fun and almost candid interaction with PINKVILLA, an excited Aayush opened up about why he chose Loveratri as his debut movie, his changing equation with Salman Khan, the transition from being behind the camera to finally being the subject of the camera, gyming with Salman Khan among others. The debutante actor was at ease speaking on belonging to the Khan family and confessed that contrary to opinions, he has held his own. Without much ado, let's dig into the interview.

Why Loveratri?

The reason why it [my debut film] is Loveratri is because it is fun, entertaining and young. It is a very sweet love story which you can see with your family.

You are moving from being behind the camera to being in front of the camera. How has the process been?

It's been very nice. I was lucky enough to be on big projects as an assistant where I learned a lot. Initially, when I started shooting for Loveratri, it was a little difficult as I was so used to being behind the camera, so I am still getting used to being in front of the camera. Sometimes, I do feel like an assistant on the sets, most of the times. I think it is going to take some time.

What did you learn to get into the skin of your character?

To become an actor, I was training for four years. I have trained in a lot of things like acting, dance, gymnastics, gyming and more but to get into the character of Shushrut, I purposely stayed away from the typical process of getting into the character. I travelled to Gujarat and spent a lot of time there. I quite understood how young people of Baroda are.

What did you explore about yourself as an actor?

That I am not an actor. That's the one thing I have explored myself that I am not an actor.

Did you always want to become an actor?

Initially, it was a small thought just like everybody thinks that they want to be an actor. Once I started assisting on the sets, I realised that I love the whole idea of filmmaking. So, I think if I wouldn't have become an actor, I would do something related to films for sure. Then I decided that I wanted to do a love story just like any other actor. Every actor wants to start with a love story, have that one dancing song, one of those moments in the film. I stride my best to take a film which is not a typical Bollywood film.

Who has been the biggest influence on you and has helped you better your craft?

Everyone. One thing I learnt when I started on films, that is the one thing Salman Bhai told me was to learn from everyone. Observe the lead actors, the character actors, observe every small detail. Every time someone is acting, just observe and understand how you would have done it differently. You just have to be natural. Salman Bhai's advice has always worked for me. He has always been there to guide me and also discover myself. It was very important for him to make me not a copy of anyone else. He taught me everything about acting.

How has your equation with Salman evolved over the years? Is he a protective brother-in-law?

First, when I entered the family, he was the brother-in-law and when I became an assistant in movies, he became a mentor. Now I consider him as my own elder brother. I think we have a very nice relationship because it is not just about being a family. I think he knows me the best. There have been times when he has told me to take it easy.

Salman is known for his physique and he has also trained you...

That's one standard we have in SKF. You don't get launched till you have a body. First criteria.

Fitness tips Salman gave you which changed your life?

First thing I realised is that don't go to the gym when he is working out. Just run in the different direction and every time he asks you which body part you are doing, ask him what body part is he doing and do the other thing. Don't do the same body part as him. You don't want to be training with Salman Khan for sure.

Over and above, he teaches you about consistency and eating healthy.

This year many star kids are making their debut, how do you intend to carve a place for yourself?

I hope and wish that I was a star kid but I am not. I am married to someone who belongs to a film family. I did not grow up being on film sets and not privileged enough to learn all this but I am catching up. What is different? I think I just have the outsiders perspective on films. I don't really understand a lot of things related to filmmaking, I don't understand business, commercials of the film.

Who has been the biggest influence on you and has helped you better your craft?

I will share an instinct, once I returned home after my workshop and Ahil was 8-9 months old then and he was able to communicate even without speaking so I was really inspired by that. About Arpita, she is the biggest supporter. I give thousand percent credit to her. More than Salman Bhai, she's been there for me. She has helped me get comfortable. Ahil, I am lucky to have him in my life. He is full of entertainment. He has so much energy in him. He is giving me that drive that I have to work hard because I want Ahil to be proud of his dad. When he sees me on-screen, he should feel happy that my dad is doing a good job.

If you could live Salman's life for a day. What would you like to change about it?

I would go on holiday. I would take one day off and not go to Panvel and shift my meetings there. I will just travel and relax.
