Gully Boy Box Office Collection Day 1: Ranveer Singh & Alia Bhatt starrer has a rock solid opening

If one film that had collectively raised the curiosity and interest of netizens, it was, inarguably, Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy. Ever since the trailer of the film was dropped online, fans have been going crazy seeing Ranveer Singh become a rapper. From the songs to Alia-Ranveer’s chemistry, Gully Boy’s Apna Time Aayega has become an anthem of sorts and be it Instagram or Twitter, #GullyBoy is what is trending throughout.
Before releasing today in India, Gully Boy was premiered at the Berlin 69th Berlin International Film Festival and was loved by one and all. And today, as the film has hit the theatres in India, going by the box office report of the film, it is celebration time for the cast and crew of the film. According to a report in Box Office India, “Gully Boy took a good opening of around 40-45% overall while cities like Mumbai and Pune took a blockbuster opening which can compare with the biggest of films. The opening of this film was far bigger thanPadmaavat and Simmba in Mumbai / Thane and Pune. This is probably due to the local feel of the film.”
Since the film was released on Valentine’s Day, it is not an official holiday but since it happens to be a Thursday instead of the usual Friday, the film does get a boost. “The last two years have seen the release of films like Jolly LLB 2 and Pad Man and they got a boost of 25-30% despite not having much for the youth. Gully Boy should get a bigger boost as it’s a film for the youth with youth stars but it will be the collections tomorrow which will tell how much the boost was.”

When we contacted trade analyst Girish Johar, he told Pinkvilla, “Gully Boy has started with a bang at the box office and the film has registered an overall 60 per cent start in the early shows.” Besides the storyline, fans are excited to see Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh together onscreen for the first time. Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar, is loosely based on the life of street rappers Divine and Naezy. In the film, Ranveer Singh will play the role of a rapper named Murad and Alia will be seen romancing him.
