X- Men Dark Phoenix is for the audience to watch starting this Friday in India. The movie which will be led by Sophie Turner as Jean Grey is high on emotions, a step back from earlier X-Men Series. In the movie, a vague reference is being made to it being a high time for the series to be called 'X-Women' given that women are the ones saving the world. In South Korea a few days ago, we asked Simon Kinberg who makes his debut as the director for the franchise if a X-Women series is on his mind anytime soon.

To this, Kinberg said, "No, I wasn't planning it but I would love to see it. You know one of the things I love Dark Phoenix is because it is driven by a female protagonist and that is not something which happens in X-Men comics that much. It is usually dominated by Wolverine or Magneto for the longest time. This was a wonderful opportunity to tell a female driven story where the protagonist of the story is both the hero and somewhere the villain. So that is interesting."

He continued, "Reading the comics in my childhood what I really liked was that all the female characters were strong but they were in the background and so I saw this as an opportunity to bring them in forefront. For me, I saw this as an attempt at doing something we haven’t done in X-Men movies and partly it also reflects the world we actually live in. I wrote this three years ago before the Me Too movement, before so much was happening in the culture but you could see the change. I think now it is moving towards equality, and hopefully that reflects in our movies."

He also added that Sophie was his partner in crime on sets. "She did not surpass my expectations but definitely met my expectations," Simon reiterated. When asked if there is any X-Men character which according to him deserves a spin off, Simon reiterated that he spent a long time working with Channing Tatum and would love to see a Gambit movie because he is a great character. "I think the truth is with the Disney and Fox merger, I don't know what the future of the Marvel movies is but we are still figuring it out but thats the movie I hope sees the daylight because we have been working on it for the long time."
