Akshay Kumar's historical drama Kesari has been going strong at the box office since its release on March 21, 2019, and the film has now entered the coveted Rs 100-crore club. According to a report in Box Office India, the Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer managed to stay firm despite witnessing a decline on Wednesday at the box office. After delivering back-to-back hits with PadMan, Gold and 2.0 in 2018, it is safe to say that Akshay Kumar has officially begun 2019 with a bang.

As per the report, Kesari collected Rs 6.50 crore on Wednesday to take its grand total to Rs 100 crores in just seven days since its release. Kesari crossed Rs 50-crore mark on its third day and on Sunday, the film managed to rake in a total of Rs 21.5 crores at the box office.

Wednesday has proved to be a tricky day for bigger releases this year. Just Like Kesari, other releases like Total Dhamaal and Gully Boy also witnessed a sharp decline on Wednesday. Film-maker Anurag Singh's Kesari, which has been released in 4,200 screens worldwide and 3,600 screens in India, has witnessed the same trend with a drop of around 13%, the report stated.

Kesari is produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Karan Johar and Sunil Khetarpal. The movie follows the events that lead up to the lesser known but significant Battle of Saragarhi. During the valiant battle, a troop of 21 Indian Sikh soldiers fought an army of approximately 10,000 Afghan invaders. Apart from Akshay Kumar, the movie also stars Parineeti Chopra, Mir Sarwar, Jaspreet Singh, Vivek Saini and Vikram Kochhar among others in supporting roles.
