EXCLUSIVE: Raveena Tandon - For horrific crimes like rape, our system does not provide justice
Raveena Tandon speaks exclusively to Pinkvilla about her upcoming movie Maatr and the grim state of women safety in India.
Raveena Tandon is back with Maatr and this time as a strong-willed and powerful mother who is taking on the entire system in pursuit of justice for her daughter. The movie which releases tomorrow (April 21, 2017) highlights the horrific crime such as rape and the judicial system's failure in providing justice.
The movie recently hit the headlines after reports of CBFC imposing a ban on its release went viral. However, when we contacted Raveena to know the truth, she said, "Censor Board is bound by archaic laws which need to change according to the times we are living in. Maatr is a story that needs to be told - enough of sugar-coating harsh realities... We will continue to remain indifferent to the brutality and Rape will remain a taboo in our society."
Raveena has been associated with various social causes including development of a girl child for a long time now. She believes in doing what is right and is here to crusade a change and sent an important message.
In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Raveena spoke about a range of topics and did not mince her words while calling out the government for failing to ensure women safety in the country. She even lauded veteran actor and Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan for her statement in the Parliament with regards to women safety. The Mast Mast actress even got candid about working with Govinda and her choice of films in this interview with us.
