EXCLUSIVE: Shibasish Sarkar on the release date of Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi and Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus

On Friday, Reliance Entertainment finally announced that the Kabir Khan directed ’83 fronted by Ranveer Singh will release in the cinema halls on June 4. The news brought about a smile on the face of not just the Ranveer Singh fans, but the entire industry, as the Kapil Dev biopic has been awaited by everyone. The industry now awaits, Reliance Entertainment, Rohit Shetty and co. to announce the date of Sooryavanshi, which stars Akshay Kumar as a cop, joining the universe of Singham and Simmba. Shibasish Sarkar, CEO, Reliance Entertainment, assures that the negotiations with multiple stakeholders are in progress and an announcement will be made as soon as they reach a settlement.

Speaking about the status quo of Sooryavanshi, he informs, “The status of the situation is very clear. Currently, the film are slated for a release in the first quarter of FY 21 (April to June). We are closing our commercials with all our partners, including theatres, once that is closed, we will announce the date. As a producer, I would want the audience to be aware about the release date of our film, and I am sure, they would know about it when we officially announce. We will start the marketing campaign with full blast, and the audience will come to the cinema halls - I am pretty sure. We will close our open-ended commercials very soon and then announce the film.”

Rohit’s next after Sooryavanshi is the comedy of errors, Cirkus featuring Ranveer Singh in a double role. Shibasish gave us a brief update the Rohit Shetty comedy as well. “We will finish Cirkus by March end or early April. The idea is to release it by 2021 end or early part of 2022,” he shared. Shibasish spoken in length to Pinkvilla opening up about their slate of releases over the next financial year – which extends to digital, television, gaming and theatrical medium (more on this soon. He also confirmed that Rohit is making his debut in the digital world soon with a web-series. “We are making a show for Amazon with Rohit,” he concludes.
