EXCLUSIVE: After Rashmika Madanna opts out of Shahid Kapoor's Jersey remake, makers approach Mrunal Thakur
Things didn't work out with South star Rashmika Mandanna and now, the makers of the Jersey remake have offered their film to Mrunal Thakur.
Shahid Kapoor is on a career high after the blockbuster success of Kabir Singh. After months of making his fans wait for the official announcement of his next, he revealed that he is stepping into the shoes of Nani in the Hindi remake of Jersey. We had already announced that Shahid will star in the emotional sports based drama. They also announced that the drama will hit theatres next year on August 28.
Few weeks ago, we had also informed you all that the makers were planning to cast Rashmika Mandanna as the main lead opposite Sasha. But there has been a slight change in plans right now. "Talks were on with Rashmika. The deal was almost locked but Rashmika and the makers couldn't agree on the finance bit. Also, the makers want to kickstart the shoot for the film next month and Rashmika has already committed the same dates to another film down South."
Instead, they have approached another actress to play the female protagonist. "Dil Raju wanted Rashmika to debut in Hindi with the project but after discussions fell through, the other co-producers on the film took the script to Mrunal Thakur. The main reasn was that all of them wanted a fresh pairing for Jersey. The actress has already okayed another sports drama - Farhan Akhtar starrer Toofan - and although she has liked the script, she is yet to sign on the dotted line." Now it needs to be seen if Mrunal replaces Rashmika in the scheme of things. Watch this space for all the updates.
