Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se Movie Review: Not even Dharmendra's old-world charm can save this nonsensical film

Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se Movie Review: Dharmendra looks his evergreen best but even his charm can't save this nonsensical comedy that has no sense or sensibility.

During a scene in the first half of the film, Bobby Deol proudly exclaims that when a Punjabi drinks at night, it stays with him the next morning as well. Maybe that was the same state that team Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se were in when they decided to make this film which has no sense or sensibility. Taking the same route as the first two films did; Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol play the 'same' characters, just with different names and professions. Sunny plays Vaidya Puran, an Ayurveda practitioner whose most prized possession is the cure, Vajra Kawach. Along with him is his natkhat brother Kaala (played by Bobby) whose single aim is to fall in love and served in a platter with a Gujarati dish is Chickoo with a double 'e' (played by Kriti Kharbanda). Finally, we have the veteran actor Dharmendra, who is a tenant at Puran's house and is a lawyer with a charismatic string of invisible haseenas alongside him. The three Punjabi's then band together when Puran's Vajra Kawach gets stolen by the forgettable caricaturish villain.

It's always a delight to see Dharmendra who defies the odds of old age and looks his evergreen best but even his charm can't save this nonsensical comedy that did not get a single laugh out of the audience. Sunny takes up his earnest yet action-packed Gadar archetype but now it feels too overrated. His action sequences did not make us whistle but stifle a yawn instead. Then we have Bobby, who just came out of Race 3 and landed in an equally bad third installment franchise film. The funniest part was that it was not only Kriti but even Bobby who seemed as the eye candy of the movie.

The writing is sloppy, cringe-worthy and downright outrageous. The songs were in tune with a love story between Bobby and Kriti that had no chemistry or biology. There was nothing that could save this movie.

The climax courtroom scene was so absurd that it was sadly funny and you feel bad that legends like Dharmendra and Shatrughan Sinha, who has a guest appearance, were so terribly misused. The saving grace of this dud of a film was actually the end credits i.e. the Rafta Rafta medley, but you could also just watch that on YouTube and save your hard-earned money instead.

Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se shows us the ill-effects of nepotism gone bonkers and even though the Deol's are terrific actors, one wonders what were they thinking when they did this film.

In finality, Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se is a waste of time, money and patience and doesn't even deserve dhai kilo ka stars.

We rate it a 35% on the movie meter.
