The Hindi Box Office refuses to slow down from its excellent start

The fifth month in 2018 has come to a close and till now, the industry and audience couldn’t have asked for a better 5-month start than this year. Actually, if you count from December 2017, the last six months have been extraordinary at the box office.

Raazi which released 3 weeks ago has already crossed the magical Rs 100-crore mark and now has set its eyes on Rs 120 crore+ at the Indian box office. This is the first female-centric film to cross this threshold which isn’t a sequel. With this fantastic achievement, Alia has now become the numero uno female box office star of the country by delivering hit after hit over 6 years and topping it off with this record holder of being the first female-centric film to cross Rs 100 crore and more.

Before Raazi, 102 Not Out released and that too delivered an excellent collection of Rs 50 crore till now, making it the sleeper hit of the year, so far.

And if this wasn’t enough, John Abraham fought a victorious battle with all his naysayers (producing partners, court battles, industry peers) and dethroned his personal dragon by getting his first solo hit film as a hero since his first release Jism. Yes, he’s had 2 other successful films in Taxi No 9211 and Madras Cafe, but they were average earners, whereas Parmanu which opened at approx Rs 4.80 crore at the box office grew strongly over the weekend and held on for a super strong Monday with Rs 4 crore collection. Its total in 5 days is approx Rs 28.4 crore and looks to be heading towards Rs 35 crore+ in the first week. It also looks set for a long 3-week run before Race 3 releases and looks set to put up a lifetime total of Rs 60 crore.

So till now in the first 5 months the industry already has 9 successful Hindi films, which is excellent tally till now, and with June looking promising with Veere Di Wedding, Bhavesh Joshi, Race 3 and Sanju all set to release in the coming weeks, we are looking at closing the first half of the year on an excellent note.
