Satyameva Jayate Box Office Collection Day 1: John Abraham starrer opens good on Independence Day

John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee starrer Satyameva Jayate finally hit the screens today on Independence Day. The film clashed with the Akshay Kumar starrer Gold. Both the films had an equal amount of buzz and although both have a patriotic angle, the crux of their story is different. Talking about Satyameva Jayate, it is helmed by Milap Zaveri. This John and Manoj starrer is about the characters fighting against corruption, illegal activities, crimes against children and women and other wrongdoings that take place in the country.
Well, despite sharing the release date with Akshay Kumar's film, Satyameva Jayate has managed to have a great opening on its first day. As reported by Box Office India, John Abraham's film opened to 40-45% occupancy on its first day. The occupancy is close to Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat which released this year during Republic weekend in January. SMJ released in 2500 screens approximately in the country. The trade analysts are predicting that it will make a collection between Rs 12-16 crores at the domestic market.
Now, the official figures are out and John can celebrate the cash ringing in. According to Box Office India, it has earned Rs 18.50 crore on its day 1 of the release. Well, it's behind Gold but as both the films have a long threshold, we can wait and watch what's in store for the two actors. 
As it's Independence Day and a national holiday today, both the films have enjoyed a good opening and are expected to make a good collection until the weekend arrives.
Meanwhile, John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee starrer Satyameva Jayate has received mixed to good response from the critics and the audience. Many have called it a typical commercial action-thriller with a social message.
