A few days back, Pinkvilla exclusively revealed that Thala Ajith’s upcoming film, Valimai is looking to release during the Independence Day 2021 weekend. In the H Vinoth directorial, Ajith plays the character of a cop, and being a racer in real life as well, he will be seen doing some never seen before bike-based action scenes in the film. Soon after that, it was officially announced that Rajinikanth will bring his next emotional action drama, the Siva directed Annaatthe on the Diwali weekend, making it the first Deepavali release for Rajini after over two decades.

The announcement of Rajinikanth’s film by production house, Sun Pictures, left Thalapathy Vijay fans wonder as to when would their star’s next after Master, also produced by Sun Pictures, release, considering that over the last few years, the Diwali weekend has become synonymous with Vijay films. A source close to the development reveals, “The action-packed film goes on the floors next month and director, Nelson, is looking to present Vijay in an avatar that’s larger than life, yet totally different from what he has done so far. While shooting for the film will be wrapped up by before July 2021, the targeted release date of Thalapathy 65 is the Pongal 2022 weekend.”

Had there not been a delay in release of Annaatthe, Thalapathy 65 would have been a Diwali 2021 opening, however, keeping the health of Rajinikanth in mind as also, the backlog of releases in Tamil Film Industry, they decided to slate the emotional action drama for the Diwali weekend targeting the family audience and follow it up with Vijay’s film on Pongal in January 2022.

Another top name from the Tamil Industry, Dhanush, might bring his next film, Jagame Thandiram, a gangster drama, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, during the Good Friday weekend in April. The Tamil New Year weekend in April can see a box-office clash between Vikram’s Cobra and Siva Kartikeyan’s Doctor. Meanwhile, the Tamil box-office has got on its feet following the release of Master, which set the box-office on fire despite the mixed response from critics and audience alike. The success of Master has paved way for a plethora of releases down south, opening up the exhibition sector again after a rough patch of almost 10 months. The Tamil industry is all set to be back on their feet.
