EXCLUSIVE: Rajiv Kapoor’s last film Toolsidas Junior targeting an April 30 release
Written and directed by Mridul, Toolsidas Junior is produced by Bhushan Kumar and Ashutosh Gowariker. The film also features Sanjay Dutt
Raj Kapoor’s youngest son Rajiv Kapoor breathed his last on February 9 this year. In December 2020, the poster of his last film Toolsidas Junior was unveiled. Pinkvilla now has a new update on this much awaited film. We have learnt that producers Bhushan Kumar and Ashutosh Gowariker are targeting an April 30 release for this upcoming father-son story, that has been written and directed by Mridul. The film went on the floors in 2018, and also features Sanjay Dutt in a pivotal role.
“There were a few dates that the makers were toying with earlier, however as of now they have zeroed on April 30 as the release date for Toolsidas Junior. The film will be released in cinema halls across India,” informs a source close to the development. Reportedly, Sanjay Dutt plays a snooker coach in the film who trains Rajiv’s onscreen son played by Varun Buddhadev. Rajiv Kapoor was last seen in the 1990 romantic-drama Zimmedaaar, and is popularly known for his performance as Naren in Raj Kapoor’s 1985 film, Ram Teri Ganga Maili. He has also directed the 1996 film, Prem Granth which was headlined by Rishi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. 
After Rajiv’s demise, Ashutosh had written on Twitter, “Saddened to hear about the passing of Rajiv Kapoor! I was a fan from his Ram Teri Ganga Maili days. We had wrapped shoot for my home production TOOLSIDAS JUNIOR, directed by Mridul! Rajiv was so affable and played his part with much fun & ease. Will miss him deeply!!”
