Ajay Devgn has started the year on a high. He was recently shooting for his next directorial Mayday that features Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, Angira Dhar, Boman Irani and Aakanksha Singh in pivotal roles. Soon after he dived into the shooting of Amit Ravindernath Sharma’s Maidaan which is scheduled to release in October this year. Now, Pinkvilla has learnt that Ajay will soon start filming for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi. Reportedly, he plays Karim Lala in the film.

“Ajay will start filming from February-end and has allocated 10-12 days for the shoot. He will squeeze in Gangubai’s schedule amidst Maidaan’s ongoing shoot. Amit will continue filming with other actors while Ajay will be busy with Gangubai Kathiawadi. At present a set of his character's house is being created in a Mumbai studio. The sequences will feature him and Alia both,” informs a source close to the development. Last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Gangubai Kathiawadi shoot had been put on hold. However, Alia had resumed shooting for the period-drama from September.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is inspired by a chapter from popular writer Hussain Zaidi's novel Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Besides Ajay and Alia, apparently the film aso features Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Jim Sarbh and Huma Qureshi. The latter makes a special appearance in the movie. Apart from these films, Ajay also has SS Rajamouli’s RRR (that also features Alia Bhatt), Abhishek Dudhaiya’s Bhuj: The Pride of India and Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi lined up for this year.
